Coming into tonight’s game with No. 9 Iowa State, the Red Raiders were 0-6 in conference play, but Tubby Smith’s team jumped all over the star-studded Cyclones from the get-go. Tech opened up a 19-point lead at one point, but Iowa State came back to cut the lead to three with 23 seconds left. Iowa State would never get closer than that. Tech’s Devaugntah Williams hit two free throws to extend the lead to five, and as the final buzzer sounded, hundreds of Texas Tech fans flooded the court and mobbed the team.

The company said that the achievement marks APL’s eighth consecutive year of improved environmental performance.“We are proud to raise the bar in reducing the carbon footprint of our fleet operations once again. APL’s concerted efforts to improve our environmental efficiency year after year underscore our commitment to a greener and more sustainable maritime industry,” Dennis Yee, APL Global Head for Safety Security and Environment, said. While APL saw almost a 3% improvement from the 48% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions per transported container per kilometer in 2016, APL-operated vessels also recorded fuel savings of almost 5% in 2017, compared to a year ago.The achievements are attributable to APL’s holistic approach in driving operational efficiencies, fleet and voyage optimisation, as well as the deployment of a fuel-efficient fleet of vessels.Coupled with route optimisation systems that have been installed onboard its vessel fleet, APL saw ship bow modifications and retrofitting of propellers to vessels that aided in minimising wave resistance and improving propulsion efficiency respectively.Navigating forward, the ocean carrier said it has resolved to reduce carbon dioxide emissions per TEU transported by 30% between 2015 and 2025, a target set by its parent group, the French shipping major CMA CGM.

For operational and accounting reasons, we have concluded that the best course of action is to re-flag all ships to be under the Cyprus flag,” a spokesman for P&O Ferries said in a statement.“The Cyprus flag is on the ‘white list’ of both the Paris and Tokyo Memoranda of Understanding, resulting in fewer inspections and delays, and will result in significantly more favourable tonnage tax arrangements as the ships will be flagged in an EU member state.”The UK’s National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) has condemned the move.“This is pure opportunism from P&O, whose long term aim has always been to switch the UK fleet to a tax haven register, as they have already done with most of the Irish Sea and North Sea fleet. We demand immediate assurance from P&O that the pay and terms and conditions of over 730 RMT members in Dover are not under threat from this move,” RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said.“If P&O think they can use Brexit as a smokescreen for introducing the low cost crewing model on the vital Dover-Calais route then they have got another think coming.”According to P&O Ferries, there are no plans to make any other changes, including the terms and conditions of any of the seafarers, as a result of the new arrangements. The reflagging concerns six ships and comes as the UK nears what is likely to be a no-deal Brexit from the European Union.
Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday formed an independent five-member commission to probe the alleged abduction, forced conversion and marriage of two teenage Hindu girls in Sindh province that led to massive protests by the minority community in the country. A high court bench led by Chief Justice of IHC Athar Minallah heard the petition filed by the two sisters — Reena, Raveena — and their alleged spouses, Safdar Ali and Barkat Ali, to seek protection. Also Read – Saudi Crown Prince ‘snubbed’ Pak PM, recalled jet from USIn their plea, the girls claimed that they belong to a Hindu family of Ghotki, Sindh but converted willfully as they were impressed by Islamic teaching. The counsel for the girls’ parents, however, asserted that the case pertained to forced conversion. Their father on Monday also filed a petition in the IHC for a medical board to determine the exact ages of the two sisters as well as to test the girls for Stockholm Syndrome, a state of mind when a victim develops trust or affection for kidnappers. Also Read – Record number of 35 candidates in fray for SL Presidential pollsJustice Minallah said the matter requires transparent inquiry and it is the government’s job to conduct probes not the judiciary’s. The chief justice said the court had to ensure that there was no forced conversion. The bench formed a five-member commission to probe the matter. The commission includes Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Chairperson Mehdi Hasan, National Commission on the Status of Women Chairperson Khawar Mumtaz, veteran human rights activist I A Rehman and renowned Islamic scholar Mufti Taqi Usmani. The federal government has been tasked to organise meeting of the commission. The incident came to light when a video surfaced online showing the teenagers’ father and brother claiming the girls were abducted and forcefully converted. It was followed by another video snippet in which the two girls claimed that they had converted to Islam. Amid the uproar, Prime Minister Imran Khan directed Sindh and Punjab to investigate the matter and recover the girls if the forceful conversion allegation was correct. Chief Justice Minallah also ordered that a medical board be constituted to determine the age of the girls. The court ordered the medical board to submit its report at the next hearing on April 11. Earlier, a medical report by Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences stated that the girls were not minors at the time of their marriages. The report was dismissed by the family of the girls as well as opposition lawmaker from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Darshan Punshi, who belongs to the Hindu community. Both the family and the lawmaker demanded an independent medical board to determine the age.
