first_imgDear Editor: Jersey City Medical Center – RWJBarnabas Health recently received full accreditation from the American College of Surgeons Committee on Cancer Program Standards. This is the highest national rating a hospital-based cancer program can receive. As the founding Medical Director of the Cristie Kerr Women’s Health Center and the past immediate Chair of the Committee on Cancer Accreditation at Jersey City Medical Center, I want to recognize all the members of the multi-disciplinary team who worked with me to achieve this most sought after excellence accreditation. To earn this gold standard is a validation of teamwork which includes providing evidence-based treatment and practice, CME educational programs, quality studies, volume, community education, and minority and ethnic outreach. It was my pleasure to also engage several nationally recognized leaders in cancer care who made important recommendations which were implemented.Thank you to all those whose hard work and dedication resulted in this honor, including my fellow physicians and surgeons. Kudos to all of the professionals in nursing, radiology, pathology, social services, rehab, and administration and to the dedicated team at the Cristie Kerr Women’s Health Center. The interdisciplinary management of cancer care requires a true spirit of professional respect and cooperation and I am so thankful these efforts have been validated by the College. I am most grateful for the opportunity to help spearhead this most important endeavor which will benefit our community for decades to come.
