In addition a facebook account (Gis Dominica) and a You tube account (Gis Dominica) is also available to allow the public to access updated information.GIS is the official communications arm of the Government of Dominica and for years has been responsible for the dissemination of public information to the various news media and the general public in Dominica. The GIS was established in response to the need to inform and educate the public regarding government and its activities with a view to generating public support for government policies, programmes, services and activities, thereby creating the environment for them to succeed.Over the years, the Department has evolved from a fledgling information management function to a broad based news and public relations agency of government, impacting on the opinions of the people of Dominica regarding matters of governmental and national importance. The GIS is headed by a Senior Information Officer who has overall responsibility for the proper management and performance of the Department which highlights various government policies, plans, programmes and projects. This is achieved through a cadre of experienced and well-trained officers who serve the needs of the various Ministries and Departments of Government, the news media, the private sector and the wider society. The Department has over the years not only concentrated on its daily National Focus- news package, but has evolved into producing special documentaries, live and pre-recorded in studio discussions and profile programmes.Other functions of the GIS include coverage of Parliament, facilitating members of Cabinet at Parliamentary sittings, press conferences and briefings for Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and other top public officials. The Department also provides press coverage of some overseas activities of government.By: Tarnia Green-Information Officer (Ag)Government Information Servicelast_img
