I have missed Chris Paul and his altar ego Cliff Paul. I have even missed Charles Barkley‘s predictions.I have not missed Paul Pierce. But I have missed screaming vulgarities at him as I watch the game.A new season. A new opportunity for my beloved player to add to his collections of championships. I was optimistic. My team was going to scrap and fight. It was going to be difficult but my NBA team was going to make the playoffs and well, who knows what could happen in the postseason. If you follow the Opinionated Spectator, you know my NBA team is the Los Angeles Lakers.  If you don’t follow, then shame on you!Alexis Sara CobbI love the NBA. I love basketball. But most of all I love the Lakers. I make no apologies. If you want me to follow a different team, then show me the alternative NBA basketball team in Pittsburgh, PA. Oh wait, we have nothing. Well there you go.The Lakers played last night against Houston. Here is what you need to know. Dwight is still a whiner and we are all collectively glad he is gone. He elbowed Kobe in the face. Classless act.The Houston Rockets won. 108-90. James Harden was a beast and Kobe looked good. But that’s not the main headline.Julius Randle, the Lakers promising first round draft pick, broke his right tibia. I still haven’t fully accepted the injury. I can’t help but think. Did that really just happen? The NBA season started and just like that the Lakers lose their top 10 draft pick to injury. Are you freaking kidding me? We just drafted him!!!We just got Kobe back. We just finally buried the ghost of Nash in the back closet with his back brace. And now, you are going to tell me that Kobe won’t have young Julius to play the entire season. He was healthy for 14 minutes of one game.I can’t. I simply cannot comprehend this. So, now I have to root for Jeremy Lin, Carlos Boozer, Jordan Hill, Wesley Johnson, and Kobe.Kobe shouldn’t even be in the same room with two of those players, let alone the same team. I’m so disgusted. I can’t breathe. I can’t comprehend this debacle. I was going to write such an uplifting positive story. Basketball was back! My refuge. And now, I have 81 more games of stressful existence before the Lakers can be certain that they can even make the playoffs.Oh God. – I can’t breathe. – Okay, my mom said to me when I feel overwhelmed to say a prayer. Okay here is my prayer.Dear Basketball God – please do not let this injury be the defining moment of the Lakers season. Please make Carlos jump high and defend, please make Lin understand what defense is and please don’t let Kobe self-implode. I would really appreciate that. – Amen. The NBA season started yesterday. And, I am trying not to be devastated.Alexis Sara Cobb may be reached at:  [email protected] or (724) 561-8082  Follow her on Twitter: @alexissaralast_img
