first_imgSony unveils PlayStation Classic with 20 games by Martin Brinkmann on September 19, 2018 in Games – Last Update: October 29, 2018 – 8 commentsSony, the company behind the PlayStation gaming console, unveiled a remake of the company’s first console, the PlayStation Classic yesterday.Remakes of classic game consoles are trending right now. Nintendo showed everyone how it is done with the release of the NES Classic and some time later the release of the SNES Classic. Both consoles includes 20 or so preloaded games that users could play right away. Other companies started to release classic or mini consoles or computers such as a C-64 Mini or the Atari Flashback console. While Nintendo could already be working on a classic version of the N-64, it was Sony’s turn to unveil a remake console.Update: Sony revealed the 20 games that will be part of the Playstation Classic Bundle:Battle Arena ToshindenCool Boarders 2Destruction DerbyFinal Fantasy VIIGrand Theft AutoIntelligent QubeJumping FlashMetal Gear SolidMr DrillerOddworld: Abe’s OddyseeRaymanResident Evil Director’s CutRevelations: PersonaRidge Racer Type 4Super Puzzle Fighter II TurboSyphon FilterTekken 3Tom Clancy’s Rainbow SixTwisted MetalWild ArmsThe list lacks lots of games that made the Playstation 1 a great gaming system: no Gran Turismo, no Final Fantasy Tactics, no Castlevania, no Tony Hawk’s Skater, no Crash Bandicoot, no Tomb Raider, no Silent Hill..Playstation ClassicThe PlayStation Classic is a remake of the first Sony PlayStation console; arguably a console that disrupted the dominance of Nintendo and Sega which dominated 8-bit and 16-bit gaming. The mini-console launches on December 3, 2018 and will retail for $99.99 in the United States,€99.99 in many European markets, and for 9980 Yen in Japan. Sony did not reveal how much gamers from the U.K. will have to pay. If I had to guess, it would be 99.99 British Pounds. The console comes with two replica Sony PlayStation controllers, an HDMI cable to connect the console to a television, and a USB cable for charging. The bundle won’t include an AC adapter and supports any that supports 5V, 1.0 A USB output. Not all games that come preloaded with the system are known yet. The short “Introducing PlayStation Classic” video lists reveals only some of the included games.Confirmed games are Final Fantasy VII, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, Wild Arms, and Jumping Flash. It is possible that games may vary from region to region. Nintendo did this with the releases of the NES and SNES Classic consoles. While many games were released in all regions, some were only available in some regions.Sony could do the same for the PlayStation Classic; release more RPG games and shoot em up games in Japan, and bring those boring Sport games to Europe and the US (Note: the author does not like Sports games but loves RPGs and shoot em ups). The console will support local multiplayer games for games that support it. Players can fight against each other in Tekken 3 for instance. As far as games are concerned that I’d love to see included:Castlevania: Symphony of the NightChrono CrossDragon Quest VIIFinal Fantasy TacticsGran Turismo 2Metal Gear SolidPaRappa the RapperParasite Eve 2PolicenautsSilent HillSilhouette MirageSuikoden 2Tenchu 2: Birth of the Stealth AssassinsVagrant StoryVandal HeartsClosing WordsThe PlayStation Classic will surely be a success for Sony. While I’m not too excited about the first batch of revealed games, other than Final Fantasy VII that is, I have hopes that the remaining games will include some that I’d like to play again. Now You: What is your take on the PlayStation Classic? Which games would you like to see included?SummaryArticle NameSony unveils PlayStation Classic with 20 gamesDescriptionSony, the company behind the PlayStation gaming console, unveiled a remake of the company’s first console, the PlayStation Classic yesterday.Author Martin BrinkmannPublisher Ghacks Technology NewsLogo Advertisementlast_img read more
